Head of Finance and Control

The Head of Finance and Control is responsible for managing the Institute’s daily accounting operations while ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.  Reporting to the CEO and leading a small team, this highly hands-on role covers payments, budgeting, stakeholder coordination, and audit preparation. In addition to operational duties, the position drives improvements in financial processes and leads the transformation of finance systems to enhance efficiency, automation, and data integrity, while safeguarding assets and optimising resource allocation to support better decision-making and overall governance.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will lead a dedicated team to manage the Finance and Control function of the Institute. Key responsibilities include:

  • Daily Accounting Operations: Oversee all aspects of finance and accounting, including payment processing, accounts receivable, financial planning, budgeting, and the preparation of management and stakeholder reports.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and enhance existing accounting workflows, implementing automation to increase efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and data integrity.
  • Compliance & Governance: Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure adherence to internal standards and compliance with external regulations, including all relevant HKIB policies.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Foster effective communication and workflow with banks and key stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks by maintaining robust internal controls.
  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with local statutory requirements.
  • People Management: Provide leadership and support to the team, guiding them to achieve performance objectives and embrace process improvements.
  • Ad-hoc Duties: Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Qualified Accountant (HKICPA or other recognized professional accounting bodies).
  • Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience in financial accounting, including at least 3 years in a managerial role within a sizeable organization
  • Proven success in designing and implementing financial processes.
  • Experience in financial systems transformation; project management experience is a plus.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage complex situations under tight deadlines.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
